HOW POPPY WORKS

1. Share your story
Tell us a little about yourself or the person you’re nominating, and why this experience would mean something right now.

2. We review each application
Every submission is thoughtfully reviewed by the Above First team. Not every applicant will be selected, but every story is appreciated.

3. We reach out when an opening becomes available
Poppy appointments are scheduled around participating stylists’ availability. Selected guests may receive only 1–7 days’ notice, so a little flexibility goes a long way.

4. Come in and let us take care of you
Your experience will take place at Above First Salon in Downtown San Jose.


WHAT COULD BE INCLUDED

Depending on your needs, hair goals, stylist availability, and available resources, a Poppy experience may include:

  • A customized haircut

  • Color or balayage

  • Deep conditioning and styling

  • A personalized hair and makeup makeover

  • Another service selected especially for you

*You’re welcome to tell us what you’re hoping for, but the final experience will be chosen by the Above First team after reviewing your application and hair needs.


BEFORE YOU APPLY

A few important things to know:

  • The Poppy Program is intended for community members who may not otherwise be able to prioritize professional haircare or a makeover experience.

  • Applying does not guarantee selection or an appointment.

  • Applicants are not selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Services are based on stylist availability, hair suitability, time, and available program resources.

  • Selected guests may be contacted with only 1–7 days’ notice and may be asked to respond within a limited amount of time.

  • Appointments cannot be guaranteed for a particular date, stylist, or requested service.

  • Services are complimentary, nontransferable, have no cash value, and cannot be exchanged for another service or product.

  • A consultation may be required. Services may be adjusted or declined if they could compromise the health or integrity of your hair.

  • Please disclose your complete hair history, allergies, sensitivities, and any relevant medical considerations before receiving a service.

  • Rescheduling is not guaranteed. A missed appointment or cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice may forfeit the opportunity.

  • Guests are responsible for their own transportation and parking.

  • Applicants under 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian, who may also be required to attend.

  • If you nominate someone else, please have their permission before sharing personal information, photos, or contact details.

  • Photos and personal stories will never be shared publicly without separate permission. Agreeing to photography is not required to participate.

  • Above First Salon may pause, change, or end the program at any time based on availability and resources.
